Instructions For Using The Crystal Jet FilmReleased Date: 04/06

Film Basics
When you pick up a piece of crystal jet film, the first step is to distinguish between the front side and the back side. You will only be printing your images on front side, and never the back side. If you overlook this step, your film will not work at all.

Usually people print on the wrong side, thinking the glossy side can not hold the ink and image properly, so they will print on the rough side, never taking a look at the instructions within the manual. Crystal Jet Film is different from normal transparency film, since it contains a kind of special solidified glue at the surface of the glossy side. The key thing to remember is you will always be printing on the front, glossy side

You should now have a clear understanding: crystal jet film front side is glossy and smooth, while the back side is rough and frosted.

A Closer Look
Now we have provided the following two pictures for you to better understand the properties of the film.

1. Front Side
It is smooth and glossy. You should print on this side.

2. Back Side
It is frosted and rough. Keep in mind, there is a thin foil sticking to the back side. Try to peel it off, and they will separate like shown below.

What is the Foil on the back?
This foil is to protect the transparent background of the image, so that it does not get dirty before the final polishing. The film can be damaged or marked up from fingerprints, the glue, dust, water, etc., so keep the foil there until the very last step, where it is removed from the final product.

First, print the image on the front side of the film, apply the film to the crystal, following the supplied instructions, then trim and clean. As we see on picture B, the foil on the back can easily be peeled off. You can use your fingernail to pick at an edge, or using a piece of tape, apply it to a corner, making sure it has a good bite to it, and peel it right off. Remember, if you peel off the foil earlier in the process, it will take you more time and effort to clean and polish it and the very end.

What happen if I print it wrong, or peel off the foil beforehand?
If you print on the wrong side of the film and apply the backside of the film (the wrong side) to the crystal, you will notice the foil which is trying to stick to the crystal will become blurry, and the film will not stick to the crystal. It will fall right off.
